ITANAGAR, Feb 13: The Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC) on APPSC cash-for-job scam in a memorandum submitted to Governor BD Mishra has raised question on the age as well as reason behind the appointment of the new Chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission.
Speaking to reporters, PAJSC member Tadak Nalo said that the committee welcomes the appointment of Lt. General Shantanu Dayal as the chairman however the big question lies in the age of the chairman which is believed to be around 61 years as of now. According to the commission guidelines, a chairman shall hold the office for a term of 6 years from the date on which he enters the office or till he attains the age of 62 years, whichever, is earlier.
“Now, the age of the new chairman is 61 years which means he will be holding office for a year. Therefore, we strongly feel that the appointment has been made to conduct exams immediately,” Nalo said, adding that unless the demands of the aspirants are fulfilled, no exams will be allowed.
The PAJSC said it welcomes reformations in the commission but it should not be questionable. Appointment of new chairman and members, and subsequently announcing new dates for examination is an old tactic by the state government to divide the aspirants, it said.
“Such tactics by the commission and the state government have been witnessed in past many years. This will never be accepted, and even though exams need to be conducted, it should be endorsed to UPSC as it was one of our demands,” Nalo added.
Meanwhile, PAJSC Chairman Techi Puru also questioned the state governor for appointing the new APPSC chairman for only a year and not for the entire 6-year tenure.
He said that any reformation in the commission should be for the welfare of the aspirants, and should be for the long term. The commission should arrest entire officials and staff from top to bottom involved in the case, disclose the selection process of the chairman and members in public domain, and also provide the joint high power committee report to the public before conducting any exams, Puru said.
