NAMSAI, Sep 6: Namsai Police traced and recovered 38 people, including 34 children and four adults, in connection with an ongoing investigation into suspected child trafficking and illegal placement of children.
The recovery marks a major breakthrough in Namsai Police Station Case No. 54/2026, with investigators continuing efforts to uncover the alleged network involved in the transportation and placement of the victims.
Namsai Police, in its statement, said that four people have so far been arrested in connection with the case. The latest arrest is that of Rupali Padung, who has been identified by investigators as an alleged main facilitator. Her alleged role, along with that of others linked to the transportation and placement of the victims, is being examined as part of the investigation.
The case is being investigated by Dy.SP Kengo Dirchi, under the supervision of Namsai Superintendent of Police Sangey Thinley, with coordination and support from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Namsai, and the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Namsai.
According to police, the investigation is now focused on establishing the complete chain of alleged facilitators, transportation routes, placement arrangements, financial transactions, and electronic evidence connected with the case.
Police are also examining the people with whom the children were allegedly placed, as well as their parents and guardians, to verify individual roles and circumstances. Necessary legal action will be taken wherever involvement is established on the basis of evidence, police said.
The CWC and DCPU are assisting with the care, protection, counselling, rehabilitation and welfare of the children who have been traced or recovered.
Further, Namsai Police said the identities and personal details of the children are being kept confidential in accordance with law.
The investigation remains ongoing, and efforts are continuing to identify the entire network and take legal action against those whose involvement is established, police said.
