ITANAGAR, Jun 14: With the rest of the world the Arunachal State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) in association with Arunachal Vivekananda Yuva Shakti(AYVS) under the aegis of State Blood Transfusion Council(SBTC) celebrated the World Blood Donors’ Day-2017  at Banquet Hall, Itanagar in a simple yet impressive programme.

This year’s theme is “What can you do” and slogan is ‘Give Blood, Give Now and Give Often, which throws light on the need for blood donations in emergencies being given by WHO(World health organization) to mark this year celebration.

Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest Secretary, RK mission Hospital, Swamiji Visweshwananda Maharaj in his address expressed his gratitude to all blood donors, who with their blood have saved many precious lives.

Swamiji underscored that it is responsibility of every citizen, who is healthy and fit or whose blood is free from infection or any other health conditions to voluntarily donate blood periodically.

Swamiji further in his message to masses on the occasion, said that donating Blood is not only an “act of goodness”, but it enhances the sense of pride in a person also and called upon the masses to make their life more meaningful and worthy by donating blood.

Founder APYS, Ramesh Jeke in his address termed Blood donation as the highest charity to humanity, which not only saves the life of someone in need of blood, but also the entire family of that individual.

Recalling the tough journey in establishing the APYS, Jeke admitted that it is a tough job to motivate the people to donate blood in the initial days as due to lack of awareness people have developed misunderstandings and misconception regarding blood donation. 

However, Jeke informed that in a span of a few years, with valuable contributions of volunteers and concern citizens, the APYS has successfully established sub-blood banks in about 10 districts in the state to help the needy persons, who are unable to travel to the state capital for blood related health issues.

Also mentioning about the shortage of blood supply in Arunachal, Jeke informed that till date AVYS since its inception in 2008 has collected more than 7000 units of blood through voluntary donations.

However he admitted that there is a need for mass public awareness and urgent need to tell people about advantages of blood donation from time to time, as also to maintain adequate supplies and self sufficiency of blood to save precious lives.

He also shared few heart touching stories of people, whose lives have been saved through blood donation and called upon all to pledge to donate blood at least once in a year.

Meanwhile through a power point presentation, Guest of Honor, Secretary General (FIBDO) cum executive member National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC), Biswaroop Biswas highlighted the significance of blood donation and its influence on the health of society.

 He pointed out that there is need to increase adequate blood supply to continue helping those people who are in need of blood transfusion.

Biswas highlighted the need of well-organized blood service and stated that the shortage of blood can only be filled by engaging the entire community, but for that there is also need to create awareness among populace and motive regular blood donors to continue giving blood, especially the healthy young generation.

Commendation certificates to regular voluntary blood donors were also given away by chief guests. 

Various speakers from APSACS also spoke on the occasion including DD (BSD) Anong Borang, Project Director (APSACS) etc.

At TAWANG,

A voluntary blood donation camp was organised at Blood Bank Tawang to observe World Blood Donors day under the theme ' Give blood, Give now and Give often'. Total 13 units of blood were collected as per the requirement of the Tawang District. Many youths under the banner of Tawang District Student Union and nurses of District Hospital Tawang came forward for the noble cause.  As informed by Dr Tenzin Gyaltsen in-charge officer, Blood Bank Tawang which has been made fully functional since March 2017 and has catered to several emergency medical cases viz. Emergency Caesarean operation, bleeding after delivery etc.
