ITANAGAR, May 18:A two day workshop on agrarian crisis and socio economic issues proposed for rural tribal youth in North East Hill regions of India was organised at College of Horticulture and Forestry, Central Agricultural University, Pasighat.
Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Dr S Ayyappan in his address raised concern over migration of North Eastern youth in search of employment in mainland India and stressed on educating them about employment opportunities in agriculture sector.
He laid emphasis on need of science communication for making farmers smart and to change the mindset of the youth towards agriculture. Ayyappan also released two extension publications on the occasion.
Prof. M Premjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, emphasised on potential of organic farming in NEH region, rain water harvesting and integrated farming system in NEH region.
Prof. MM Adhikari, Ex. Vice Chancellor, BCKV, Nadia, West Bengal stressed that location specific technology suited for the NE hilly region need to be developed and disseminated.
