DCM reviews hydropower projects to strengthen state energy roadmap
ITANAGAR, Nov 30:A team of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) Cum Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) members along-with the Chairperson, Mitali Tingkhatra today visited the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Tani Happa, Sagalee to ascertain the facts after report of corporal punishment against girl students by teachers surfaced recently.
The team spoke to the students, warden, school teachers and the Principal for thorough enquiry of the incident.
Accordingly, it was informed that the incident happened due to some offensive scribbling about the Head Master and a student. Consequently when the teachers tried to trace out the handwriting none admitted and hence the girl students were made to undress as punishment.
When the students informed this to their parents, they assaulted the teachers namely Thinley Wangmu Thongdok, Sangeeta Khalkho and Nabam Janu.
Condemning the incident and speaking against corporal punishment in schools, Mitali Tingkhatra said ‘As per enquiry, it is to be surmised that even though the three teachers were wrong in dealing with the students and they deserve to be punished as per the law, the parents’ role in the incident too should be condemnable for the fact that they took the law in their hands and beat up the women teachers.’
Further, the team has urged the OC, Women Police Station, Itanagar to enquire the whole episode appropriately.
Earlier, FIR was lodged against the three female teachers by All Sagalee Students Union on November 27 last but the case was transferred to Itanagar Women Police Station for further enquiry and action.
