ITANAGAR, Jul 17: As per the direction of Dr. Mohesh Chai, Minister , for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary and Dairy Development (AHV &DD)  and  Bidol Tayeng, Secretary (AHV&DD), the District Veterinary Officer, East Siang has engaged all his manpower along with proper medicines and logistics on a  war footing to tackle the recent outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD)  in Siluk village near Pasighat.
The  outbreak affected about 300  heads of  cattle which were not vaccinated. Despite department’s efforts to cover the animals in the area by vaccination during pre-monsoon vaccination programme, the same could not be carried out by the Department due to lack of cooperation by villagers.
However, a team of veterinary doctors led by District Veterinary Officer, Dr. J Panor are camping in the affected villages and are providing all possible aid to the affected livestock and are collecting necessary samples to determine the types of virus involved in the outbreak. An awareness camp is also being planned to educate the villagers regarding the menace of FMD.
