PASIGHAT, Nov 3:  Veteran social worker and ‘Late Narayan Bhide Smriti Samman’ awardee 2017, Paniram Panyang of Ruksin village under East Siang district was felicitated by Seva Bharati Arunachal Pradesh today.

State coordinator of SBAP, Shekhar Kelkar honoured Panyang with muffler and memento. Paniram Panyang, now in his late 70s had left his job in SSB and dedicated himself for the cause of society under the influence of ‘Golgi Bote’ Late Talom Rukbo and his associates. He has been a familiar face among all sections of people across all the villages in Ruksin Sub-Division where he used to visit in his bicycle and spread the message of cultural unity as well as the need for preservation and promotion of the indigenous faith & culture.

Panyang who mostly worked with Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang (DPYK) and Arunachal Vikas Parishad (AVP) in various capacitied had also served as founder Secretary of Donyi Polo Vidya Niketan, Ngorlung for more than a decade. With active role in politics for few years, he had served as the District President of Indian National Congress (INC).

In recognition of his consistent effort for the cause of the indigenous faith and culture as well as untiring spirit for selfless social work, the 5th ‘Late Narayan Bhide Smriti Samman’ was conferred to him on 29th September at Ahilya Bai Mandir in Nagpur (Maharashtra) by Mananiya Shushri Shanta Akka, Pramukh Sanchalika (Chief) of Rashtra Sevika Samiti, informed Seva Bharati Arunachal Pradesh this evening in a release.

Late Narayan Bhide, a committed social worker from Nagpur had come to East Siang district in the early 1990s and visited several Adi villages spreading the message of national integration and preservation of indigenous faith and culture. A group of 16 persons who accompanied Paniram Panyang and his family to Nagpur under the banner of ‘Bharat Mera Ghar’ also attended the felicitation program and shared their sweet memories of visiting various places and interaction with people of various sections in Assam, West Bengal and Maharashtra as a part of the program.
