NAHARLAGUN, Jun 8:One day orientation training on new contraceptive, post partum, and post abortion was conducted for Urban ASHAs to upgrade the skills of Accredited Social Health Activist at state training hall National Health Mission office.
Joint Director family welfare, Dr S Bhattacharjee underscoring the importance of family planning, emphasized on fertility regulation to reduce the birth rate. Advocating for small family, he said ensuring healthy timing and spacing of pregnancy can help in improving quality of life for both mother and child.
Meanwhile requesting the ASHAs to play a crucial role in creating awareness on family planning, he said ASHA being the first person to contact couples can counsel them on family planning methods and it benefits.
There is a broad basket of choice of contraceptive available these days, informed Dr Amping Perme, Deputy Director family welfare and said injectable contractive Antara is also made available in the District. However disappointed at increasing unmet need in the state, she urged the ASHAs to improve access to the use of contraception to beneficiaries to avoid unwanted pregnancy.
Calling them as first contact person, she said ASHA should maintain all the records correctly and also motivate new couples to adopt family planning.
Dr. Goter Doke, Gynaecologist TRIHMS, DDFW Dr C J Mongmaw and DDFW Dr R Tasung also attended the training.
