Examination Fiasco

ES Reporter

ITANAGAR, Sep 6:Accusing the Deputy Commissioner, Siang District, Rahul Singh for committing irregularities in the recently held recruitment of UDC, LDC and MTS posts at Pangin, the Siang District Students Union on Wednesday demanded the Chief Secretary to declare the examination null & void and re-conduct the interview.

Addressing a press conference this afternoon at press club, General Secretary, Tamer Tachung alleged the DC of illegally engaging a girl, Rita Chetry, who appeared for MTS post along with her friend in evaluation of answer sheets of the candidates.

Tachung disclosed that the matter came to light when a group of teachers identified Chetry, when she was evaluating the answer sheets at the DC’s residence with other teachers and subsequently made a complaint to the Arunachal Teachers’ Association (ATA).

After hearing the matter, the ATA sought clarification and the DC tendered an apology before the teachers for the mistake, he added.

Also informing that the question papers of the same examination had also been leaked by someone, the union questioned how such confidential papers were leaked, when the DC kept all the documentation in his residence.

Tachung disclosed that an image of the blank questions papers clicked by a mobile went viral on social networking sites and alleged that “If it was not the DC, then who leaked the questions papers as during the examination no students were allowed to bring their phones to the examination hall.

The questions papers which itself is an answer sheet should be kept under the safe custody of the DC with strict vigil as it is involves the career of thousands of innocent students,” Tachung alleged.

Tachung strongly urged the CS to setup a SIT committee to probe into the leakage of question papers and award exemplary punishment to the culprits, in order to check recurrence of such evil practices in the near future.

The union further demanded the CS to relieve the DC from his post and demanded for fresh interview again, failing which it threatened to launch indefinite bandh call to press for their demands.

DC office clarifies, says allegations ‘baseless’

PANGIN, Sep 6:Meanwhile, the DC office, Siang District strongly refuted the baseless allegations levelled by various student union groups in the recently conducted written examination for the post of UDC, LDC and MTS.

All necessary measures have been undertaken to ensure the sanctity and fairness of the examination. Regarding allegation of involvement of a candidate Rita Chettry bearing roll no. 474 in the evaluation process, it is to inform all about the reality of the matter. Since all the ALCs of the office had appeared in the examination, they couldn’t be engaged in any activity related to exam. Hence, on the advise of the ALC in-charge, the girl who is the daughter of a senior ALC was unknowingly engaged in miscellaneous tasks like bundling and unbundling of papers, serving tea etc. However she was never involved in any such process that would have any bearing on the end results and its fairness in any manner. Further there were 20 teachers, 2 magistrates and office staff in the same room where the evaluation process was going on, a press statement issued by the In-charge DIPRO stated.

Admitting her (Rita) entering into the evaluation room as a bona-fide error, the DC office further clarified that as soon as it was brought to the notice of Authority that the girl had also appeared in the written Examination, an executive order cancelling her candidature was issued immediately in order to maintain the sanctity of examination.

Various other allegations doing the rounds seems to be a part of malicious campaign by the various vested Interest groups as they had a direct altercation with the DC Office. Due to usage of foul language and abusive stance by the student union members who had forcibly entered the DC Chamber on 25th August 2017 and had to finally be escorted by the security guards, a police complaint was also lodged against president of the Siang District Student Union (SDSU) Tagu Mibang at Pangin police station.

In another incident a person named Leedo Mize who claimed to be the president of SDSU had demanded 2 seats in the present examination assuring cooperation from various Union groups. This demand was vehemently opposed by the DC who stressed on merit being the sole criterion for selection, the statement further reads.
The DC office strongly appeals to all the candidates not to be influenced by such baseless allegations and rumour mongering and to focus on further preparation for the remaining exam. It further appealed to have faith in the District Administration and ensure that the final results shall be solely on basis of merit and performance as can already be seen from the results of the written Examination. -
