PASIGHAT, Feb 24: Altogether 277 persons could enroll their names for PwD (Person with Disability) after thorough medical checkup by a medical board on Wednesday during one day Unique Disability ID (UDID) enrollment cum assessment camp held on Wednesday at the Bakin Pertin General Hospital, Pasighat. The camp was organized by the UDID Cell, Directorate of Health Services.
DC Tayi Taggu handed over UDID cards and certificates and also wheelchairs, hearing aids and walking sticks etc to the enrolled beneficiaries on the occasion. He said that the district administration in collaboration with the health department had arranged this special camp in the hospital where specialist doctors would examine the level of disability and would recommend for Certificate and UDID.
“Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities” project is being implemented with a view of creating a National Database for PwDs, and to issue a Unique Disability Identity Card to each person with disabilities. The project would not only encourage transparency, efficiency and ease of delivering the government benefits to the person with disabilities, but also would ensure uniformity, he added.
State Nodal Officer, UDID, Dr. Dampak Mindo briefed on the importance and necessities of UDID card and certificate. He informed that a disable person would avail pension, transport concession in government buses and trains and could apply for job quota, admission in various medical and engineering colleges etc. DIPRO
