KHARSANG, Feb 1:

In another severe blow to joint designs of insurgent outfits active in three districts of Tirap, Longding and Changlang, the Assam Rifles this morning killed two cadres after fierce gun battle in Chingsa village in Kharsang administrative circle of Changlang district.
Acting on intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles reacted immediately and headed for the said village’s paddy field at midnight, merely a kilometre away from Kharsang police station. On sensing danger the insurgents opened fire indiscriminately. The Assam Rifles who were operating in freezing cold retaliated and during the process two insurgents were killed on the spot. The deceased were identified as Selfstyled private Manab Deori alias Maniram Asom of ULFA-I while the other was identified as CPL Hira Singh alias Tomba of PLA, Manipur. Two pistols with live ammunition were recovered.
Presence of ULFA in the area is not new as many cadres were identified and neutralized in the past but presence of PLA of Manipur is shocking and worrisome. The Assam Rifles is continuing its operation in the area as possibility of more cadres cannot be ruled out. Arunachal Police is also closely helping the Assam Rifles.
The incident has left villagers in complete confusion and fear.An army officer talking to this correspondent said they will not rest until every outlawed loitering in the area is either killed or apprehended.
