KHONSA, Nov 28:Local MLA cum Chairman, State Medicinal Plant Board, Wanglam Sawin on Monday dedicated a community hall in memory of former minister, late Wangnia Pongte, who was the first graduate, gazetted officer and the first to represent Tutsa community in state legislative assembly.

The inaugural programme was organized under aegis of  All Tutsa Welfare Society (ATWS), DRDA and general administration.

While addressing the huge gathering, Chief Guest Sawin informed that the decision to dedicate the community hall to late Pongte was taken in recognition of his hard work towards the welfare and upliftment of the Tutsa Tribe.

 While informing that the Chief Minister has given a positive node in principle for establishment of Sainik School in Tirap District, Sawin appealed the villagers of Khela, Lamsa and Bunting villages to spare land for the purpose as it will benefit the local populace.

He later appealed the district administration and all line departments to work with more concerted efforts to develop the areas inhabited by the Tutsas which had been neglected for long.

Speaking on the occasion, Changlang MLA Tesam Pongte appreciated the executing agency, DRDA and ATWS members and appealed to utilize the community hall purposefully. 

Special Guest DC Tirap PN Thungon emphasized upon the importance of education and health sectors adding that pregnant women and children from 0 – 2 years must be compulsorily immunized in nearby health centre. He also urged the parents of school going children to get health cards for school admission.

Booklets of Tutsa Folklore based on alphabet, phonetic and spoken dialogue was also released by Sawin and Pongte.

Changlang DC  Khimhun ,SP Tirap Jitendra Kumar Meena also spoke on the occasion.
