ITANAGAR, Nov 6:Forest officials today handed over a rescued turtle to the Itanagar Biological Park for rehabilitation. Weighing 15kgs, theIndian Peacock Softshell Turtle, currently categorized in IUCN Red List as vulnerable species was rescued from the fish pond of a resident of upper Dobam village by a team of the Banderdewa Forest Range after being tipped-off by locals.

The wild animals rescued by the Banderdewa Forest Division in last 18 months also includes two elephant calves, primates such as slow loris, wild cats, phyton, all of which have been handed over to the Itanagar biological park.

Meanwhile, the department has lauded conscientious citizens for providing information and volunteering in rescuing many endangered species.
