ITANAGAR, Feb 23: The Tripura state government will host and organize the First Under-21 North East Football League in the month of October next where all eight member State Football Associations of Northeast India will be represented by their state teams.
This was announced when a delegation of North East Football Development Council represented by Presidents/Secretaries of its member State Football Associations—Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Assam, Mizoram, Sikkim, Tripura and Nagaland, headed by its general secretary Kipa Ajay called on the chief minister of Tripura, Biplap Kumar Deb and minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of Tripura, Sushanta Chowdhury at Agartala and discussed various issues related to the development of football in the Northeastern region of the country.
“We would like to sincerely thank the CM and Minister of SYA, Tripura for inviting us to initiate the much important discussion regarding development of football in the region. Organising the first Northeast Football League is part of NEFDC's collective endeavor, a step forward towards our goal and we are grateful to the government of Tripura who decided to host its first edition here in Agartala,” said Kipa Ajay after the meeting.
North East Football Development Council was formed by the eight Northeastern state football associations of India in February 2020 at Shillong. Council aims to augment the development of football in the north east alongside the efforts of the All India Football Federation in football development with the collective efforts by all the member State Football Associations. Further, it plans to coordinate with state governments of northeastern states to chalk out a road map to develop the game to provide every possible facility to football players and state football associations for their structural growth.
