ITANAGAR, Aug 3:Following the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) order to discontinue the service of those Traffic Wardens who will participate in the ‘ Whistle Down’ strike on August 7 next, the Itanagar Traffic Warden (ITW) on Thursday  has termed the order as completely uncalled for and affirmed that it will continue to fight for their legitimate rights.

Also urging the government to either fulfill their genuine demands or terminate all the wardens, the ITW has clarified that it is not against the ADM rather they are thankful to him and the then SP, Robin Hibu for giving them an opportunity  to serve society.

However terming the order, regressive and unexpected from a man who is like a ‘father figure’ to all wardens, the ITW cited that in a democratic country, every person has the right to fight for their legitimate rights and stated what they are demanding from the authority is genuine and valid.

Convincing the ADM not to take such drastic step against the wardens, who have been doing their assigned duties with dedication even during hostile weather conditions, the ITW opined that terms and conditions before the recruitment does not matter as if the competent authority wants then norms and service conditions can be formulated again.

Justifying its demands, the ITW also regretted that despite rendering 6 years of service to the wellbeing of society, the state government is yet to acknowledge the contribution of the wardens.

“We called off our agitation due to an assurance given by the government to address our demands. But despite knowing our plight, the Deputy Secretary Finance along with concern Home Department rejected our plea to establish a traffic cell under the control of Superintendent of Police,” said the ITW. On the other hand, Special secretary, Home’s assurance to provide 20 percent quota to ITW in Traffic Police recruitment in near future is yet to see light, rued ITW.

We have already given our valuable service for six years and almost submitted about 13 memorandums, but all have gone in vain. Now most of the wardens are over-aged to sit for any interview, it added.

Further reiterating to go ahead with its proposed whistle down strike in any situation to seek justice for the wardens, the ITW fervently appealed to the state government as well as competent authority not to mistreat them but instead acknowledge their contribution and address the genuine demands.
