TEZU, Oct 13:Raising strong voice against the drug menace, thousands took part in an awareness rally at Tezu on Friday chanting ‘say no to drugs’, ‘no excuse for drugs abuse’.

Participating in the rally, retired Chief Engineer, Lapalum Kri described such awareness rally as need of the hour and disclosed that for the last two years he has been consistently protesting against the killer substance.

“In those days opium was consumed after hard work to relax and in rituals etc, but unfortunately these days opium is used for entertainment purpose which should be stopped,” he suggested.

Highlighting the legal aspects, Timeso Boo, senior advocate termed cultivation, selling and consumption of opium as illegal and pointed out that the drug peddlers should be booked under appropriate act to make the case a serious one rather than lodging a simple FIR.

The rally was spearheaded by All Mishmi Students Union (AMSU).
