TAWANG, Aug 25:Chief Minister Pema Khandu today took stock of preparatory activities being undertaken for celebration of ‘Tawang Maitree Diwas 2017’, a festival to celebrate the Civil-Army friendship to be held on September 10-11 next here at Tsangyang Gyatso Sports Stadium.

Chairing the meeting here at DC’s conference hall the Chief Minister emphasised on deepening the bond between Army and civilians through celebration of Maitree Diwas.

“Tawang today exemplifies the good coordination that exists between the Army, administration and the public,” said the Chief Minister.

He said since many years the local public and the Army have always participated in each other’s activities. Due to influence of the Army, many local youths are absorbed in the Armed Forces. The Chief Minister also credited much of the development in Tawang district to the presence of the Indian Army.

The Indian Army, Yuva Arunachal and the district administration will organize the Maitree Diwas jointly.

Founder of Art of Living campaign, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will grace the occasion as Chief Guest, which will also be attended by Union MoS Home Kiren Rijiju.

Also taking the opportunity, the Chief Minister had brief interaction with the head of departments and officials on development issues of the district.

He informed that in next month, a committee comprising of ministers and officials will carry out the task to inform the people about the Centre’s and state’s flagship programmes. He said due to poor knowledge about these programmes even among the officials, these schemes are not being availed by the people.

The Chief Minister said the answer to unemployment and poverty lies in successful implementation of these flagships programmes. A massive advertising campaign will be carried out through distribution of pamphlets, outreach campaigns, social media, news media etc to inform the people about the hundreds of schemes being offered by the centre and the state, he informed.

The Chief Minister further took report on implementation of GST, Aadhar coverage, and sought status on open defecation free campaign. 

He encouraged the officials to keep setting Tawang as an example in successful implementation of government’s programmes and schemes. 

“Entire Arunachal appreciates Tawang for its good work culture and I hope our officers will not let us down,” said the Chief Minister.

In his vote of thanks, Brigadier MP Singh, Commander of the 190 Mountain Brigade thanked the Chief Minister for reinitiating the celebration of Maitree Diwas, which will be celebrated after 7 years.

RWD Parliamentary Secretary Jambey Tashi, Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi, public leaders, HODs and the officials from the Indian Army, attended the meeting.
