ITANAGAR, Sep  7: At the conference of the North East Indigenous Peoples’ forum held in Guwahati, the Save Mon Region Federation (SMRF) had brought into light the dangers of the upcoming dams in Tawang.

The SMRF has been an organization that has been engaged in a constant fight against the building of dams in Tawang.

Taking the cultural heritage of the place into account, the Forum highlighted that the place would cease if the construction of the dams take place. It also went ahead to say that the place might go through a demographical changes due to influx issues. Giving light on various issues that concerned Tawang, the forum accused the government of failing to go by the United Nation’s mandate of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) while constructing huge dams. More than 90 percent of the population of Tawang are opposing the construction of dams and quite evidently reveals the opinions of the people.

The forum has appealed to the ones concerned about the matter, to support them intheir movment against the construction of the dams. (Agencies)
