AALO, Apr 20:

Renowned poet, Madhu Raghavendra, gave a talk on 'Power of Poetry' at St.Francis de Sales College, Aalo on Thursday.  He focused on how young aspiring writers could write about their rich culture, and document local practices.

The talk highlighted that poetry of a particular region speaks immensely about that culture and politics. Globally, with the spread of performance poetry as an upcoming art form, there is an opportunity to use the art to propagate culture and human rights. Performance poetry takes place in bars, theatres, streets, cafés, colleges, universities, private institutions, international organisations, and literary and cultural festivals.

Madhu is a poet, social activist, and art event curator. He works in public health and women empowerment. He is the founder of Poetry Couture, one of India's largest pro-bono poetry initiatives.

His debut book of poems, Make Me Some Love To Eat has been well received nationwide, and is in its second edition. His poetry movement has created many (free) art spaces for poetry in many cities of India. He was a resident artist at Basar Confluence, one of Arunachal Pradesh’s first artist residency programme.
