LSD impasse

ITANAGAR, Aug 28:The 'Tala bandi andolan' launched jointly by the Galo Students Union, Galo Youth Organization and Galo Peoples Forum in continuation of its non-cooperation movement against the state government entered its 8th day today with offices remaining closed in the entire 28th Likabali and 36th Nari Koyu assembly constituencies. Gates of SDO office, Likabali was locked down which was later opened by officials.

In a separate meeting held this evening, the GSU reiterated its demands made to the State Government on Friday last which includes continuation of the Andolan until posting of DC and SP, institution of Judicial Enquiry into the Nari firing incident, suspension of all the officials including SP for free and fair enquiry, release of compensation to those injured and who houses were ransacked.

The GSU also took strong exception to the insensitive stance adopted by the Chief Minister towards the demands and aspirations of the Galo community including those living along the foothills.

The Union would like to remind the Chief Minister of the BJP's motto of sabka sath, sabka vikas which is definitely not being followed in the state. There is a growing discontentment among the members of the Galo community and we would like to state that no state can march towards the path of peace and prosperity by deliberately sidelining and marginalising a particular community, it said in a release.
