DOIMUKH, May 11:Centre for Youth Development and Leadership Studies at Rajiv Gandhi University organized one day symposium on youth today at its campus.

Vice-Chancellor in-charge, RGU, Prof Amitava Mitra, graced the occasion as a chief guest to the programme and Prof. Sudhir Kumar Singh, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, chaired the Programme.

Prof. Prasanta Kumar Ghosh, Head, Department of Social Work, Visva-Bharati, Shantiniketan, West Bengal delivered 1st Keynote Speech on “Education for Youth in India” and Dr. Rose Nembiakkim, Director, School of Social Work, IGNOU, New Delhi delivered 2nd Keynote Speech on “Untapped Human Resource: Youth of North East India”.

The resource persons discussed about the advantages and challenges of demographic dividend in the country. India becoming the world’s youngest nation with a mean age of 27 years was highlighted.

Prof. Ghosh shared insights on need-based skill education and structural changes in prevailing educational structure of the country. Employability of youth as per market demands and life skills-based education was highlighted as core to proposed changes in educational system of the country.

 

Dr. Rose focused on strengths rather than limitations. Citing examples like that of IGP Robin Hibu, Mary Kom and other local talents, she motivated the youth to optimise on their interests. She highlighted the prospects of community-based innovation and enterprise like Eco Tourism, Handloom, Sports etc.

Dean of Social Sciences, Prof. SK Singh motivated the young audience to be bold and courageous.

There was a separate clarification round towards the end during which the young audience sought clarifications on various aspects. A total of 96 delegates from across the departments of Rajiv Gandhi University participated in the symposium. The CYDLS Profile Booklet was also released on the occasion.
