ITANAGAR, Feb 2: Students from various government schools within the Itanagar Capital Region today carried out a protest rally demanding the state government to extend the examination dates for class IX and XI, which is scheduled to be held from February 8 next.
Hundreds of students participated in the rally which began from IG park and ended at Government Higher Secondary School, Itanagar.
Speaking to reporters, a student said that the announcement of the examination date by the department was unexpected and most of the students are not prepared well to appear for the exam in such a short time period.
He also claimed that the syllabus is incomplete and teachers have jumped most of the subject topics without proper teaching during the short period of offline as well as online classes.
“At some point, we were informed by the teaching staff that the exam date could be canceled. Due to which most of the students could not concentrate and prepare for the exam,” he added.
Another student from government school, Chimpu said that the students are not demanding for online classes but the state government should at least extend the scheduled date of exam for preparation. He said the online class was a total failure as most of the students could not attend it due to the lack of mobile or internet accessibility.

“We did not get enough time for preparation due to the recent ICR bandh call and covid lockdown etc. Few classes were conducted offline and rest were held online due to which most of the syllabus remained incomplete,” he said, appealing the state government to provide study leave to the students.
Meanwhile, responding to the demand, Director School Education, Marken Kadu said that the examination schedule was issued almost two months back. However, the concern of the students will be intimated to the state government, he said.
"Online exam is not an option. The exam date will remain as it is, it will start from February 8 and will end on February 24," the Director said.
He also said the exam schedule was discussed beforehand and decided according to the situation.
