DOIMUKH, Sep 12: Members of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU), All Nyishi Students Union and students of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) gheraoed the office of the Vice–Chancellor RGU, objecting the reservation in the recruitment of faculties. The VC had to halt the recruitment process after the objection from the students’ organizations on Monday.
The students' bodies objected that out of 91 posts for the recruitment of Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor  for different Departments, only 7 posts  are reserved for Schedule Tribe (ST), and demanded increase in reservation, particularly for Arunachal Pradesh Schedule Tribe (APST).
“Though Rajiv Gandhi University is a central university but it was established for the welfare of the indigenous people and we believe that maximum benefits should be given to indigenous people in all aspect," daid President AAPSU, Tana Doji Tara.
He further informed that the 7 posts reserved for ST category has no mention about APST.  "So we have strongly objected to the recruitment process. We are not against the University or any other reservation policy but our demand is that maximum benefits should be given to our local people," Doji said.
Speaking to  the media, Vice Chancellor RGU,  Prof Saket Kushwaha informed that after objection by the students bodies, the University administration has put a halt to the interview process which was scheduled for today. He further added that no rules were  compromised  and that RGU has always encouraged the locals.
In a joint meeting of the RGU authority headed by VC Prof Saket Kushwaha with  AAPSU, ANSU held today, it was decided to halt the ongoing recruitment process for the time being. Therefore, the scheduled interview starting 12th  September for various faculty positions hereby stands canceled till further order.
The house also decided that reservation policies in different universities shall be collected for reference at the earliest possible to resolve the issue and to start the recruitment process. In this regard, a committee comprising of university officials and representatives from the students bodies shall be constituted to study and examine the various issues raised by drawing analogies from the Central Universities in the North Eastern states. The committee shall deliberate on the matter in detail and submit the report within a period of two months.
As per the representation by RGU-SRF regarding the new Ph.D. ordinance, 2020 and consideration of scholars admitted prior to 2020, the university administration shall examine the matter and modify/rectify the RAMC. A committee shall be constituted which will ensure adequate representation of faculty members from APST.
On representation regarding the issue of ICAR affiliation by students pursuing various courses In Agricultural Sciences, the house agreed to examine the matter and assured appropriate steps shall be taken for the benefit of students as per rule.
