NAHARLAGUN, Jun 12:One day capacity building cum sensitization workshop on Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PC & PNDT Act) for district appropriate authority cum DMOs and DEOs was conducted at Nation Health Mission today organized by the Directorate of family welfare. The objective of the training was to train healthcare professionals for effective implementation of the Pre- Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of sex selection) Act 1994, in the districts.
Director Medical Education, Dr RD Khrime while addressing the participants requested all the DMOs to adhere to the Act and take all necessary steps to ensure registration of all ultrasound machines and clinics in the districts to strengthen the PC&PNDT Act.
Citing that discrimination and sex determination is not often heard in tribal society, he however said that people’s mindset is changing rapidly with time.
So to keep vigil and prevent misuse of techniques and violation of PC & PNDT Act, the committee should act tough and conduct surprise visit to diagnostics and do necessary checks to find out that everything is in order, Dr Khrime said. He further stressed on effective IEC activity to do away with the negative mindset of society and the service provider.
Disappointed with the slow pace of implementation of the Act in the districts, State Consultant PC& PNDT, Dr P Dutta informed that as per 2011 census Arunachal child sex ratio is 972 which is better than national average but as per NFHS 4 there is grey area of declining trend of child sex ratio in some districts.
He directed the Data Entry operator and District Coordinator to do the reporting correctly and send it to the state cell every month on time.
Dr Bengia Malla, Nodal officer Dulhari Kaniya informing about the special scheme ‘Dulari Kanya’ announced by Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on 15th August 2016 which was entrusted to Women and Child Development department earlier, will be implemented by the Department of Health and Family Welfare and in this regard handing and taking over at state level has already been done and for districts it is in under process.
