NAHARLAGUN, Jun 22: Despite relentless campaigns launched  to  create awareness through Swacch Bharat, people are still indifferent towards cleanliness and this gnawing fact can be seen in the newly inaugurated ‘Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences’ where almost all pillars of the ramp are covered with spit marks of pan and ghutka.

Itanagar was ranked as the 3rd dirtiest city in 2016 amongst 500 cities in the country, however after much effort from all stakeholders the position improved enabling the state capital to clinch spot number 216 as the cleanest cities of India and the 7th in the Northeast in the Swachh Survekshan 2017.

‘We regularly cleaning such litter but the very next day we find spit marks all over again,’ said a safai karamchari.

When contacted, Chief Medical Superintendent, TRIHMS, RD Khirmey also expressed his dismay over such indifference by denizens.

‘We have provided dustbins as well as pasted posters in various zones of the hospital requesting people to avoid defacing walls or any part of the hospital premises  but we are very saddened to see that our efforts are going in vain,’ added the CMS.

He further appealed the people who visit the hospital for health purpose or visiting indoor patients to avoid littering and defacing the hospital premises.

‘This hospital does not belong to the government but each and every one of us…we should keep it clean and hygienic,’ added Khirmey.
