ITANAGAR, Jun 19:  All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union has once again reiterated its opposition to granting of citizenship to Chakma-Hajong refugees in Arunachal Pradesh.

Addressing reporters at press club this afternoon after attending the All Party Meeting on Chakma –Hajong issue, AAPSU President Hawa Bagang informed that  one point resolution has been taken where all the political parties irrespective of  political affiliation  have strongly opposed the granting of citizenship to refugees in Arunachal Pradesh.

‘We are not against the SC verdict but we will never allow citizenship to be granted in Arunachal Pradesh. They can be settled and given citizenship anywhere in India but not in our state where indigenous rights would be at stake,’ said Bagang.

Also pointing fingers at the biased viewpoint of human rights organizations, he said ‘Human Rights groups are only in favour of the refugees but there are countless heinous crimes like murder, rape and kidnapping being carried out by these refugees but no one is there to question them.’

Further, the AAPSU President also questioned the two representatives of the state, Member of Lok Sabha (East) Ninong Ering and Member of Rajya Sabha, Mukut Mithi over their absence in the meeting and lackadaisical approach towards the pressing issue.

‘Ering is the representative of the affected people whereas Mukut Mithi is a former Chief Minister and had been Chairman of the Chakma –Hajong issue,’ he observed.

While, responding to legal recourse to counter the SC verdict, Bagang asserted that AAPSU had already filed Review Petition in the court and the matter is yet to be listed. Moreover in today’s All Party Meeting state government has also unanimously decided to file a review petition on the same, he said.
