Itanagar, Jul 30: A meeting was convened by the Deputy Commissioner Capital Itanagar Talo Potom with the owners of hotels, automobile workshops, hospitals etc which were found operating without installation of Effluent Treatment Plant/ Sewage Treatment Plant in violation of section 25/26 of the water( Prevention and Control of Pollution) Acts 1974. 
Member Secretary APSPCB, T Riba informed that notice were served by the Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board Naharlagun to various business establishments in compliance with the order of National Green Tribunal to install effluent treatment plant/ sewage treatment plant in their respective establishments by 6th July last. Failing to install effluent treatment plant and sewage treatment plant would continue to invite environmental compensation penalties, the Board said.
The official said that it was noticed that waste generated from such establishments were running down to rivers directly without being treated and thereby polluting the river especially Dikrong, Senki and Pachin rivers.
The owners and representatives of the business establishments requested the district administration and the state pollution control board  to regulate the rates with the vendors as they have  suddenly hiked the cost of installation charges. They also requested that sufficient time to be provided to them for installation that too after proper survey of requirement for each establishment.
They also pointed  out that most of the establishments are running on rent on others buildings.
The DC explained the mechanism of ETP while stressing that the process should not take a long time. He however asked the member secretary to discuss with the vendors regarding regulation of rate and to invite quotation to fix a minimum rate for all.
Representatives from Arunachal Pradesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries APCCI requested the APSPCB to first carry out awareness regarding the harmful effect of sewage/ waste and the need to install the ETP. They extended cooperation with the direction of APSPCB but requested for sufficient time to be provided for the same. Later, the DC informed that the drive for installation process would be carried out in a phase wise manner with all the big establishments being considered in the first phase. He said that the ETP has to be installed at any cost however, rates and types of the plant to be installed may be worked out by each establishment. He also requested all especially the APCCI to pass on the information to all the traders to devise proper mechanism for waste management and to install ETP as and where required. Further he informed that failing to install effluent treatment plant and sewage treatment plant would invite additional environmental compensation charges.
