ITANAGAR, Sep 6:The Teachers Day was celebrated with great fanfare here at state banquet hall, wherein Education Minister, Honchun Ngandam attended as Chief Guest.

A total of 60 teachers were awarded with State Teachers Award-2017 at the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Ngandam called upon the teachers across the state to work hard and double their efforts so that the education scenario of the state improves.

Blaming No Detention Policy for adversely affecting the education scenario, Ngandam said seeing the negative impact of the policy, board examinations has been re-introduced for Class V and VIII to keep a quality check on primary education.

He also informed that Moral Science and Grammar are being re-introduced in elementary schools of the state.

Referring to introduction of smart classroom, Ngandam said that it will help children to understand the lessons better and improve the learning outcome of students.

Speaking on the occasion, Parliamentary Secretary, Pani Taram termed the teachers as builders of the nation.

He appealed to society to acknowledge the role of teachers in shaping the lives of the students.

Calling teachers “next to God”, Joram Begi said that we have come out of darkness into the light because of teachers and we need to recognize the role of teachers for development of society.

While expressing concern about the declining of reputation of teaching job, Begi said it is very unfortunate that teaching job is being now treated as last opportunity by the educated and the unemployed.

Secretary, Education, Bidol Tayeng disclosed that the government is soon going to reduce the 20 years service requirement needed to qualify for state teacher award nomination to 10 years, so that young sincere teachers are also indentified and nominated for the awards.

Further, Tayeng also informed that the department is examining the feasibility to include teachers from government aided and private schools for the state teacher award from next year.

Earlier the gathering observed 2 minutes silence as mark of respect and for eternal peace of the departed soul of late Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Jomde Kena.
