ITANAGAR, Jul 26:The 18th Vijay Divas commemorating India’s victory in Kargil War was celebrated today at BJP State Office by remembering the supreme sacrifices made by the brave Indian soldiers.
The function was attended by Minister, Power, Industry, Textile & Handicrafts, Tamiyo Taga as Chief Guest while Wanglat Lowangcha, former Home Minister and senior BJP Leader was the keynote Speaker.
MLA Olom Pangyang, along with many BJP senior leaders, State Office Bearers, Morcha Heads & members and other karyakartas attended the function.
Throwing light on the background and history of Kargil war, Wanglat recalled the bravery and supreme sacrifices made by soldiers from the Northeast region such as that of Captain N. Kenguruse of Nagaland, Captain Clifford K Nongrum of Meghalaya, Captain Jintu Gogoi of Assam, Havaldar Hogu Chimyang of Lapnan Village, Arunachal Pradesh and that of many others.
‘The best way we can honour our martyrs is by taking a pledge to root out corruption from society,’ Wanglat said.
Minister Tamiyo Taga, in his speech termed Kargil war as a product of the evil design of Pakistan. While condemning Pakistan for sponsoring terrorism, he pointed out that the day is not far when Pakistan will be internationally isolated and it will fractured into small provinces along ethnic lines.
On the issue of India’s security, Taga assured the gathering that, today’s India is not the India of 1962. Indian Army is now a modern army, highly motivated and well equipped. ‘Over and above that, Indian Army has experiences of fighting in all the major wars in the different parts of the world and hence it has an edge over any other army in combat experiences’, he opined. On this note, Taga cautioned that even a military power like China should not make the mistake of underestimating India.
The function was organised under the leadership of Dominic Tadar, State Vice President. The welcome address was given by Kenyir Ringu, State Vice President, while the vote of thanks was tendered by Doni Nich, State Secretary and Ojing Tasing, State Secretary was the moderator of the function.
