BOMDILA, Aug 14:The West Kameng legislators collectively reviewed the ongoing schemes and held discussions on the Annual Action Plan 2017-18 on Sunday at district headquarters Bomdila.

Presiding over the daylong deliberations, Speaker TN Thongdok; Legislator from 5-Kalaktang AC Segment in the district, expressing his dismay over the deteriorating quality of works in some of the engineering departments, said that better co-ordination and accountability is required from the officers.

Championing the cause for a holistic approach for the all round development of society, the Speaker opined that, the benefits of the centrally sponsored schemes hardly reaches the targeted people at the grassroots level. The officers and the PRI leaders need to work and think out of the box.

He directed the officers for timely and regular submission of the Progress Reports on quarterly basis to all the MLAs of the district so as to facilitate further planning and review. He also set deadlines for completion of certain projects in the district which are in the mid way or have taken years to materialize.

Expressing his concern over the rampant forest fires in the district, Thongdok suggested for creation of fire fighters equipped with firefighting equipment under CAMPA and advocated for regeneration of degraded forest land. He also expressed his dissatisfaction over the guidelines governing the rationalization of the transfer and postings of teachers and voiced for necessary changes as per the requirement of the area.

Highlighting the various initiatives of the state government under the able leadership of CM Pema Khandu for a balanced growth in the state, MLA Japu Deru called for accountability and transparency from the officers and also to imbibe the work culture with a holistic approach.

Taking strong exception to the lackadaisical attitude of some officers, MLA Japu Deru drove home the point that either the officers perform or perish.

Among others, he advocated for the welfare of the girl child, Beti Bachao Beti Parao, conservation of the Bio-diversity and rationalization of the transfer and postings of the teachers in the district.

MLA cum Parliamentary Secretary for Health & FW Phurpa Tsering expressing his strong reservations over the rationalization of the transfer and postings of teachers said that, based on the ground realities, there is a need for review at the earliest and sought the co-operation of the legislators of the district. He also expressed his concern over the apathy and non-performance of the BRO in the district and suggested that the Trans Arunachal Highway in the district should be handed over to some other private road construction companies.

Later, he informed of the proposed Hospital likely to come up soon in the district to be constructed at an estimated cost of 200 crores and the new digital X-ray machine to be procured for the General hospital, Bomdila.

Earlier, highlighting the aim and objectives of the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Sonal Swaroop said that periodical reviews of the on-going schemes results in better planning, monitoring and execution. She also called for compulsory registration under GST and opening of bank accounts of newborn girl child.
