RONO HILLS, Sep 7:The Hindi Cell of the Rajiv Gandhi University today organised a one-day workshop on the “Proper Use of Hindi Language and Figures in the Office” for the benefit of University Staff.

In his inaugural speech, the Chief Guest Prof. Tomo Riba (Registrar in-charge) laid emphasis on the importance of the national language. He also added that if we honour our national language then it would be easier for us to connect with each other emotionally. He said that a sound knowledge of language is a necessity to advance in any sphere of activity and exhorted everyone to look upon the Hindi language as a collective responsibility and to contribute to its development by making maximum use of it in official correspondence.

Prof. H.K. Sharma, Dean the School of Language remarked that a particular language being easy or difficult depended upon our mental reception of it. He said that if we are determined to use Hindi in our official correspondence, we would definitely be able to do so. The objective of the workshop is to train our office staff on the use of correct Hindi while doing official noting, etc., he added.

Prof. Oken Lego, the Head of the Department of Hindi and Member Official Language Implementation Committee, RGU said that the Hindi language today occupies an important space in our lives and that we should bear the same respect for our national language just as we have for our national song, national anthem and the national flag.  He expressed regret that it is indeed a matter of concern that even after seventy years of Independence, Hindi is still not used as the primary language for official communication even in various Central institutes.

Dr. Satyaprakash Paul, in-charge of Hindi Cell projected the objectives of the Workshop in his welcome address.
