ITANAGAR, Sep 11: A week long ‘Solidarity Students Exchange Program’ was hosted by Nitte University, Mangalore, Karnataka from September 2-9 last. This is a flagship program of the Indian National Fellowship Centre (Mumbai) which has been started at the initiative of the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, PB Acharya to promote national and emotional integration and cultural exchange between youth of North East region and other parts of the country.  

A team of five students from different parts of Arunachal Pradesh were part of the visiting delegation along with 20 participants from Mizoram and seven from Nagaland.  Team Arunachal was led by Disemso Yun and other members were Topo Lukchu Digbak, Recha Rekhung, Jomnya Doji and Nabam Tutu.

During the week the team visited various institutes under the Nitte University and interacted with the staff and students. There was a healthy exchange of ideas and cultural nuances. NE students got the first hand opportunity to appreciate various local culture including delicacies and meet local artisans and experience Kannada lifestyle. Each participant was hosted by a local family for home stay for a day. This was an essential component of the exchange program.

The Chancellor of Nitte University, Vinay Hegde hosted a traditional musical evening at a beach resort. The highlight of the visit was a gala cultural evening in which folk dances and songs of all the four participating states were on display. Team Arunachal performed a fusion dance showcasing the traditional dances of five Tribes. They also sang the song ‘Hamara Arunachal’ describing the beauty of the different regions within Arunachal Pradesh.
