ITANAGAR, Aug 29: Continuing its fight against mega dam projects in Tawang, Save Mon Region Federation (SMRF) has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister’s Office seeking the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rollback the proposed National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Stage-I & II Hydropower Project in Tawang.

In its memorandum, the Federation claims that, people of Tawang are facing many problems due to various Dams and other construction in a total 2172 sqkm area of Tawang.

People are now only left with limited land for agriculture and other livelihoods due to as many as 13 such mega and mini projects in the district.

There were many rallies and resolution was passed by the affected people in order to protest against the Tawang Phase-I & II project and during the agitation many agitators were arrested and some lost their lives but the state government is reluctant and adamant to accept the demand of common people, added SMRF in its memorandum while appealing the PMO to immediately look into the matter and cancel the MoU/MoA with the NHPC.
