ITANAGAR, Feb 11: Six differently-abled students received the Indus Towers Scholarship for higher studies in a programme being organized in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Parents Association of the Disabled (APPAD) today.
Speaking to the media, Project Coordinator, ITSP, Northeast, Seema Jangid informed that the Indus Towers Scholarship programme is a CSR initiative of Indus Towers Ltd (Formerly Bharti Infratel Ltd), being implemented by Shishu Sarothi. It was launched in 2016 in association with Shishu Sarothi NGO with the objective of encouraging and supporting students with disability and has since supported 316 students with disability from across the North East pursuing higher education. The programme will be supporting 600 students over a period of 5 years. The selected students will be provided support towards their educational fees till the completion of their course, and a few will also be granted additional assistance towards study materials/ assistive devices/hostel/conveyance.
Earlier, President APPAD- Tagom Ronya appreciated the Shishu Sarothi NGO and ITSP for organizing the event to help both students and their parents. Such scholarship will not only help the poor students but also encourage them for higher studies, he said.
He further appealed to the state government to come up with a similar policy and programme to encourage the differently-abled students.
