BORDUMSA, Feb 13:  The Singpho ethnocultural festival 'Shapawng Yawng Manau Poi' started on a colourful note here at Bordumsa today. Biswajit Daimary, Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, and Deputy Speaker-APLA, Tesam Pongte attended the second day of the festival as chief guest & guest of honour respectively.
People across all age groups from the Singpho community in full traditional attire participated in their prestigious festival.
 “Like every other indigenous communities of Arunachal, Singphos also have a very rich culture and tradition," said Speaker Biswajit Daimary. Joining the festivity with the people, he also appreciated the festival committee for maintaining the age-old tradition. "Government of Assam is also taking initiative to preserve the culture and tradition of indigenous communities of Assam, and it will also benefit communities like Singpho who are staying in the easternmost part of Assam since time immemorial," he said.
 Earlier, extending festival greetings to the  Singpho community, Tesam Pongte, Deputy Speaker-APLA urged the people to respect and preserve their culture, specially to the youths of the community. We should embrace modernity but we should not forget our roots, he added.
