ZIRO, Dec 19:The 15th Apatani Youth Association (AYA) general conference cum election began on Monday here at Abotani Hall.
Attending the inaugural session as chief guest, Parliamentary Secretary for Transport, Likha Saaya, appreciated the outgoing executive members headed by President Taku Chatung and Secretary Hage Tabing for bringing great achievements during their tenure.
Wishing contesting candidates, he also suggested the upcoming executive members to refrain from money culture especially during assembly election which will greatly hamper developmental activities of the area.
‘To make a community strong, youths need to be united and take up measures against the influence of drugs and alcohol,’ he asserted.
Taking reference of Clean Kley River Mission taken up by the previous executive body, Saaya suggested the new executive to carry forward the same while assuring all possible help from the government for such initiatives.
Attending the inaugural session as the guest of honour, Dr. Dani Duri, the founder president of AYA briefed on the activities of AYA right from its inception in 1971 and abolishing of social evils like child marriage, practice of tattooing etc and widening of village roads.
Earlier, in his presidential speech, the outgoing AYA president Taku Chatung highlighted major activities taken up during his tenure like initiation of popular Mission Clean Kley River, Clean Ziro Green Ziro, anti-drug movement, provisioning of civilian terminal etc.
Er. Tapi Tai, general secretary Tanw Supun Dukun (TSD), Ex-MLA Nani Ribia who is also the founder president of Apatani Students Union, Yachang Tacho, GB representative of All Apatani Gaon Burah Welfare Association also spoke among others.
The programme will conclude on December 21 next.
