ITANAGAR, Jul 16: In a surprise move, taking the PPA off guard, seven sitting MLAs of the Peoples Party of Arunachal (PPA) deserted its own party and joined the Conrad Sangma-led National People’s Party (NPP).
The seven MLAs are Tanga Byaling (Nacho), Nikh Kamin (Bordumsa), Rajesh Tacho (Anini), Mutchu Mithi (Roing), Tapang Taloh (Pangin), Tirong Aboh (Khonsa West) and Dikto Yekar (Daporijo).
The news of their joining NPP has been confirmed by Byaling. Byaling along with his team submitted the required documents of their joining NPP to the Deputy Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly for recognition as NPP members today.
While interacting with media persons on Monday, NPP state President Gicho Kabak said that the seven PPA MLAs had already joined NPP in presence of its national President Conrad Sangma who is also the Chief Minister of Meghalaya on July 12 last at Shillong. The official announcement of the joining of PPA MLAs to NPP will be held soon in presence of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) chairman Himanta Biswa Sharma and Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu.
While responding to a question, Kabak informed that though NEDA is in alliance with BJP but there will be no seat sharing with BJP in Arunachal. ‘NPP will field candidates in all the available seats in the coming Assembly election. Like other states, it will be post- poll alliance,’ confirmed the NPP state chief.
Disclosing more about the party’s strategy, Kabak said: “There are at least 47 candidates as of now who are all set to throw their hat in the ring. However, we are still in touch with many sitting BJP and Congress MLAs. After dissolution of the Assembly many more will come to NPP seeking tickets.”
After the joining, the strength of the PPA has come down to only two—MLAs Takam Pario (Palin) and Markio Tado (Tali).
