ITANAGAR, Jan 12:In a major setback to NSCN (R),  the Self Styled Sergeant Major of the outfit identified as Manhua Wangpan was apprehended Thursdayafternoon by the Khonsa battalion of the Security Forces from Khonsa town.

According to the Defence PRO (Kohima) Col C Konwer, based on a specific input of a cadre trying to terrorize and extort money from Khonsa town, the battalion swiftly launched a joint operation in conjunction with Arunachal police and apprehended the Self Styled Sergeant Major with a AK-56 assault rifle, live ammunition, extortion note, opium, brown sugar, Rs 5000 of extortion money, multiple debit / credit cards and other incriminating evidence.

“Khonsa battalion of the Security Forces under the aegis of DAO DIVISION has been carrying out relentless  operations in south Arunachal Pradesh to keep the area peaceful and out of clutches of insurgents and this apprehension will go a long way in creating fear among the anti national elements in the area,” Col Konwer said.

Post spot interrogation, the cadre admitted to being active part of the banned outfit since 2015. He further revealed that he was part of a nine men team operating under Self Styled Captain Eli Ketok, a senior cadre of the banned outfit and had come to Khonsa town for collection of extortion money on his instructions.

“The Security Forces has been carrying out aggressive operations in the South Arunachal Pradesh and this apprehension has struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the underground cadres of the group in the area,” added the Defence PRO.
