IRBn personnel Ombing to be laid to rest on Sunday

ITANAGAR, Jul 8:

 

The massive search and rescue operations came to an end on Saturday after the body of Ft Er. Sergeant Yashwant Gujjar was also recovered today, the fourth occupant of the ill-fated chopper was also found below the debris of the wreckage. Equipment had to be airdropped to enable the retrieval and ultimately the body was airlifted today around 1 pm. Later,bodies of Ft. Lt. Pramod Kumar Singh and Ft. Er. Gujjar were evacuated to the Tezpur IAF base.

 

 

Meanwhile, the body of Indian Reserve Battalion Constable Nada Ombing was handed over to family members after post mortem examination. The mortal remains is being taken to his native Ziro where the last rites will be carried out on Sunday.

 

Earlier, on Friday in a mix-up late Ombing’s body was airlifted to Tezpur assuming that it was one of the IAF officers.

 

SP Papum Pare Tumme Amo who monitored and supervised the whole process informed that search and rescue operation for the helicopter crash which occurred on July 4 last at Sopo Yuha near Hostallam village will close on safe return of every member of operations teams by tonight.

 

Director General of Police (DGP) Sandeep Goel has appreciated the Arunachal Police for its commendable role in locating the crash site and in retrieval of the bodies.

 

Condoling the death of IRBn Constable Nada Ombing in the crash, Goel also lauded SP Yupia, Tumme Amo, who led from the front and organised the search and rescue operations in an outstanding manner.

 

Meanwhile, the mortal remains of Wing Commander, Mandeep Singh Dhillon, the pilot of the ill-fated helicopter was cremated with full honour at Tezpur in Assam on Saturday afternoon.

The six-year-son of the pilot performed the last rites in presence of his wife, daughter and his parents besides top IAF, Army officials of Tezpur base and Sonitpur district administration. Dhillon, considered among the best pilots in the country, hails from Patiala in Punjab.

The cremation of co-pilot PK Singh, who was also killed in the crash, will be done in Tezpur on Sunday.

A defence communique on Saturday said that Wing Commander Dhillon was the Commanding Officer of the 115 Helicopter Unit at Tezpur.

Dhillon had accomplished over 18 years of flying experience in varied terrain, from icy mountains of Ladakh to the jungles of the North East India. Wing Commander Dhillon belonged to Patiala and came from an Air Force family, with his father having retired as a Squadron Leader. He had completed his schooling from RIMC Dehradun and later joined the National Defence Academy (NDA) at Khadakwasla, Pune as an Air Force cadet.
