ITANAGAR, Dec, 15: Reiterating its demands, Siang District Headquarters Demand Committee (SDHC) on Friday sought the Chief Minister’s intervention in declaring Boleng as permanent headquarters of Siang as per recommendation given earlier by various committees.
In a representation, the committee alleged that people of Siang are unhappy over the decision of the government in selecting the district headquarters for Siang, which it alleged was being given to Pangin because of undue pressure to government by the then Education Minister cum local MLA, Tapang Taloh.
It also strongly condemned the protest rally recently held at Pangin, in which incumbent state Power & Industries minister, Tamiyo Taga was allegedly threatened by protestors without any valid reason over the district headquarters issue.
“The protestors even carried out the rituals of curse and sorcery against Taga and his family based on assumption that the Minister is trying to shift the district headquarters from Pangin,” it added while clarifying that the name of Taga was unnecessary dragged into controversy as he has nothing to do with the headquarters issue.
The committee also informed that the proposal for creation of Siang District was first forwarded by DC, East Siang in an order vide no-G-3589 on February 13 last 2004, where Boleng was recommended as most feasible for district headquarters.
“The DC even earmarked a plot of land measuring 17,217 square meters vide order no, ESR/LR-33/94/2012/1226 for construction of DC, SP, ADC and other heads of department at Boleng for the said purpose,” it asserted.
However to our utter surprise and against the will of the public of Siang, the then Chief Minister Nabam Tuki notified Pangin as temporary headquarters at the behest and under influence of Local MLA, Tapang Taloh.
While referring to previously held various meeting over the issue, it alleged that the selection of Boleng as district headquarters had been already finalized by the committee in a meeting held on August 2012, which was organized after some difference cropped up on selection of the district headquarters between few sections of people.
It claimed that the same recommendation was given in the joint meeting of Pangin-Boleng leaders meet held on January 3, 2014 and Siang District Re-Organization Intellectual Forum meeting held on December 20, 2014 including Adi Bane Kebang(ABK) in its letter submitted to the state government on November 15 last.
Asserting that the reports of independent High Level Expert Committee, constituted by Chief Secretary to verify the claims and counter-claims of two sets of people has been already submitted to the state government for disposal, it said that they have full faith in the expert committee finding and hoped that the decision will be given in favour of people to Boleng.
