ITANAGAR, Jul 16:Altogether 22 school going children were safely rescued after the vehicle they were travelling in got trapped in the flood waters triggered by incessant rains between stretch of NH-415 between Nirjuli and Banderdawa this afternoon.
The school bus belonging to St. Xavier Residential School, Nirjuli was dropping small children to their homes when the flash flood occurred all of a sudden near Nirjuli Police station..
While no help was provided by disaster management authorities, thanks to locals including commuters who rushed to the spot right on time and pulled out all the children from the bus thereby averting a potentially dangerous situation.
According to onlookers, it took nearly half an hour to pull out all the small children from the partially submerged school bus to safety.
There were no information of injuries or casualty reported from the flood affected area, but a large number of residences and shops were reported to have been swamped with flood waters. The vehicular movement between Nirjuli to Banderdawa also disrupted for hours.
Earlier, district administration in an order urged people to take extreme precautions especially those living alongside the river banks and low lying areas and advised to call at the 24 hrs toll free emergency helpline number “1077” issued by DDMA for any assistance.
