ITANAGAR, Jul 31:Hundreds of students deprived of pre and post matric scholarship 2017-18 staged a dharna at Tennis Court, Itanagar on Tuesday and pleaded the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to reconsider their scholarship applications.
The day-long protest was supported by Consumer Rights Organization- Arunachal Pradesh (CRO-AP) state unit as well as many other organisations.
Addressing the massive gathering, Toko Takar, a student, lamented that due to mistakes and lack of proper guidance by the Education Department many students have been deprived of scholarships.
Categorically stating that they do not blame the state government nor the Social Justice, Empowerment and Tribal Affairs department for the blunder, he urged the state government to intervene and pursue the matter with the concerned authority to reconsider their scholarship applications.
Lamenting that the academic session of many colleges have already started, Takar said that many students especially those belonging to poor background and pursuing their higher studies outside the state are facing untold hardships in fulfilling their basic requirements to continue their studies.
The agitating students claimed more than 1945 students who had filled up their application forms for scholarships through M/s Yarkum Enterprise are being deprived of their constitutional rights.
“We had to apply through M/s Yarkum Enterprise to fill the forms because previously many students made mistakes in filling up the forms. After the submission process was made offline, we approached Hillang Nima who assured to submit our forms,” Takar added.
Extending solidarity to the agitating students, Consumer Rights Organization- Arunachal Pradesh (CRO-AP) chairman Achu Bagang asked the concerned department and the state government to immediately come to the rescue of the students.
Bagang said that they have requested the concerned department to find a way to provide some amount to those who have not received their stipends.
