NAHARLAGUN, May 19:  Nearly 56 years after the 1962 Indo-China war, Taksing the last village of Arunachal Pradesh situated in Upper Subansiri district which is a mere 22 kilometres away from China has been connected by road on May 9 last after tremendous effort by the Border Roads Organization under Project Arunank.

‘The 80 km border road was one of the most challenging projects for BRO and also the most strategic road in view of the threat perception from our neighbours. But with help of Air Force and ground team we have achieved this target four to five years ahead of target,’ said SK Tripathi, former Chief Engineer, Project Arunank, BRO while addressing reporters at Naharlagun. Tripathi has been promoted to Additional Director General of Border Roads, Delhi Headquarters.

The BRO completed the extension of the difficult Tama Chung Chung-Taksing road beyond Limeking on May 9, after nine years of painstaking work.

‘Earlier, to reach Taksing  it took at least four days of foot march crossing and covering difficult terrain  but now, one can  easily reach the last village  within 6 to 8 hours,’ added the outgoing ADG-BRO.

Another strategic road TCC- Maja Axis road is also now connected till Bidak the last ITBP post on 30th January 2018.

The official was also prompt in acknowledging the support of the Air Force in achieving the feat. ‘The strategic road could be completed due to extensive support from Air Force and our men in the ground who despite absence of basic amenities has successfully achieved the target to connect the last border post of the country,’ he added.

‘To complete the task Air Force had to air-lift at least 1000 metric ton of different machines and materials in different places  that helped  to expedite the work,’ informed Colonel  B Shivprasad, DIR(plg & QC).

Initially our men on the ground had started the work manually. They were so motivated and energetic that they cleared the jungle even crushed stones to pave way for men and machine,’ he informed.

We will continue to put in our effort to fully complete this strategic Indo-China Border Roads (ICBR)  TCC-Taksing (54Km),TCC –Maja( 46Km) Sarli- Huri (72km ) and TCC- Nacho (78) within stipulated time frame along with other general staff roads,’ said the newly posted Chief Engineer  RS Rawal.
