DOIMUKH, Jan 27: A group of Rajiv Gandhi University students comprising of seven boys and seven girls from various disciplines was flagged off by the Rajiv Gandhi University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha on January 25 evening to take part in the Yuva Sangam programme under the Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat initiatives being hosted at the Auroville Foundation, Pondicherry scheduled from January 29 to February 3 next.
The Yuva Sangam is an initiative of Government of India which focuses on conducting exposure tours of the youths comprising mainly students studying in Higher Educational institutions (HEIs) & some off-campus youths from one state or Union Territories to the other and vice versa. It provides an immersive experience of diverse facets of life, development landmarks, recent achievements and youth connect in the host states, the VC said.
Speaking to the RGU delegate, RGU Registrar Dr. NT Rikam encouraged them to yield best out of their visits, where the students will get a multi- dimensional exposure under five broad areas — the 5 Ps- Paryatan (Tourism), Parampara (Tradition), Pragati (Development), Paraspar Sampark (People-to-people connect), and Prodyogiki (Technology).
The Finance Officer of RGU Prof. Otem Padung, termed it as a valuable opportunity within the larger context of India as a leader who played the host to the G20 Summit recently, while the Joint Registrar of RGU Dr. David Pertin, informed that the program is organized to encourage youth as future leaders to raise awareness of global issues, exchange ideas amongst other things. NSS Officer and Assistant Registrar of RGU Gomar Basar also spoke and wished them the best. The delegate is being escorted by Prof. Sambhu Prasad, Head, Dept. of Physical Education & Sports Sciences and Nodal Officer of EBSB and Tadung Dada, a Guest Assistant Professor in Physical Education. Prof. Sambhu Prasad further informed that 2024 as a year is also marking the 150th Birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo and the 55th Birth Anniversary of Auroville.
Amongst others the Dean faculty of Basic Sciences Prof. Sanjeev Kumar, Dean Faculty of Engineering & Technology Prof. Utpal Bhattacharya, Head, Department of Chemistry Dr. Rajesh Chakrabarty, were present to witness the flagging off ceremony.
