Opium addiction is a serious cause of concern and has been predominantly affected the entire North – Eastern districts of Arunachal including Lohit, Anjaw, Namsai, Changlang, Tirap, Longding, Dibang and Lower Dibang Valley.
However of late habitual consumers have realised its impact and volunteered to quit from its tentacles.
This is where the Drug De-addiction centre under the active guidance of Zonal Hospital Tezu in Lohit district is playing a crucial role and helping numbers of addicts quit killer addiction of opium and other contraband substances.
The inmates from Anjaw district, Namsai, and Dibang Valley and Lohit are mostly benefited from this rehab. They are administered proper dose of medicine after getting detail history and at the same time to boost up their will power daily spiritual class with practice of Rajyoga Meditation by Brahmakumaris including counselling and awareness programmes.
“Easy Rajyoga meditation is doing wonders to build their will power. To avoid relapse and shifting, spiritual class and meditation are the weapons. Those who attend and practice spiritual class and Rajyoga meditation regularly, he or she can get rid of all negatives vices and many chronic ailments easily”, informs BK Jayanti in – charge Brahmakumaris Rajyoga Meditation Centre Tezu.
“We cannot supplement only through medicines, it may further lead to addiction. Spiritual class and meditation is the prerequisite component of the rehabilitation centre”, says Dr S Towang, SMO and special caretaker of the RC who is a trained professional.
Our prime focus is to impart spiritually, medicines don’t have lasting solution. Surprisingly we are getting 70% positive output from the spiritual class and the inmates too have accepted the easy method and it has been continuing since beginning of this rehab in June 2017, informs DMO Dr S Chai Pul.
However regretting the poor fund flow, she disclosed about the pending salaries of contingency staffers who are engaged in the Rehabilitation Centre (RC).
“Daily meal for 10-bedded RC is being managed from indoor patients of the Zonal Hospital Tezu (ZHT) including doctors and nurses. A psychologist from ZHT is trained under Drugs – De – Addiction programme to assist the RC. It has virtually set a milestone for the affected districts and the authority should support the cause to keep the RC functioning smoothly,” the DMO further said.
Presently, the 13th batch is undergoing de – addiction course where most of them are opium addicts. The RC is being run by the ZHT supported by BRMC Tezu.
