ITANAGAR, Apr 24: The Capital Police on Saturday collected a record fine of Rs 318000 for various MV Act violations during a mass checking.
The exercise, which began at 8:00 am and ended at 2:30 pm, detected at least 118 violators, and a total of 18 vehicles seized for various MV Act violations.
The vehicle inspection team was jointly led by DySP Traffic Nobin Jomoh, and SDPO, Itanagar Police Station, Kamdam Sikom. Traffic wardens, traffic police, cops, and security personnel were roped in to help conduct the drive.
Speaking to reporters, Superintendent of Police, ICR, Jimmy Chiram said that the capital police conducts such motor vehicle inspections from time to time, however the inspection on Saturday was done more strictly.
“We have observed that the use of defective number plates is rampant in the state capital. Also people do not care to carry basic vehicle documents. Through the drive, we are trying to enforce MV rules as well as raise awareness on traffic rules," the SP said.
Responding to several questions related to the MV Act by media persons, the SP said that it is mandatory to put high-security registration plates on vehicles issued by the transport department as High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) helps in tracking stolen vehicles.
He also denied that the inspection team allowed government vehicles without high security registration plates to go and maintained that the inspection is being done uniformly.
"Traffic rules are for your own safety. So I request everyone to follow the traffic rules," the SP appealed, adding that such drive may continue in ICR when weather and time permits.
