RONO HILLS, Jan 30: Martyr’s Day was observed on Tuesday at Rajiv Gandhi University, commemorating the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who is revered as the father of the nation for the incredible sacrifices he made for India. The program was conducted and coordinated on behalf of the International Center for Gandhian and Peace Studies (ICGPS), Department of History, Rajiv Gandhi University.
The Vice-Chancellor of RGU, Prof. Saket Kushwaha, in his message, reflected on India's recognition as a rapidly developing country and attributed its global respect to being the land of Mahatma Gandhi. He quoted Albert Einstein's words that future generations would find it hard to believe such a man existed on earth. The VC stressed on the relevance of Gandhi's ideals of truth and non-violence in today's world, marked by wars and proxy conflicts. He encouraged students, faculty, and staff to embody these values for the nation's welfare, echoing the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prof. Kushwaha expressed a commitment to contributing honestly to India's development by 2047 as a true homage to Mahatma Gandhi's sacrifices.
One of the senior professors of the University Prof. S.K. Nayak spoke about Gandhism and Gandhian principles, noting that RGU has been organizing programs and events about Gandhi since 1993. Dr. N.T. Rikam, the Registrar of RGU, spoke about Gandhism as a philosophy, a way of life, and a religion, emphasizing its transcendence beyond divisions of caste, creed, and language. He highlighted Gandhi's advocacy for simplicity and non-violence (Ahimsa) over violence.
