ITANAGAR, Dec 8: Days after the state Bharatiya Janata Party jumped to the defense of the Chief Minister on the derogatory remark issue, the Peoples Party of Arunachal (PPA) today demanded the resignation of CM Pema Khandu on moral ground for insulting fellow colleague and Opposition leader in the State Assembly.
Addressing reporters at Press Club today, President PPA Kafha Bengia asserted that the party has maintained silence over various issues, but the use of derogatory remark against PPA MLA and Opposition leader by the Chief Minister that too inside the Assembly is uncalled for, irrelevant and undemocratic.
‘CM has polluted the highest institution, so he should resign from his chair on moral ground,’ stated Bengia while adding that the remark might have evoked similar sentiments from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National President Amit Shah and State President BJP, Tapir Gao.
Since the day Khandu donned the mantle of Chief Minister, the state has courted various controversies from Chakma- Hajong to Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy and now this derogatory remark. Moreover there are dozens of cases pending against CM Pema Khandu like PDS, Tawang firing incident, he said.
‘If he wasn’t Chief Minister then his place definitely was in jail. Khandu has suppressed every voice that rises against him,’ the PPA Chief added.
‘Khandu’s remark against PPA was really immature, as the Opposition leader had only questioned why they have been deserted after President Election and passing of GST bill in the state. Whereas PPA legislator never claimed any profit from the BJP Government,’ said Bengia.
The President also claimed that Chief Minister Khandu is yet to resign from primary membership of the Peoples Party of Arunachal.
Kafha further claimed that, Chief Minister should be of clear image with no criminal records and corruption charges.
When asked if there are any candidates in PPA for the Chief Minister’s chair, he opined that anyone who honours humanity is a fit enough candidate. However he went on to name Opposition leader Takam Pario as an eligible contender.
‘Takam Pario is eligible and gentle enough for the post of Chief Minister,’ claimed General Secretary of PPA, Kaling Jerang. However, responding to query on PDS case against Pario , he (Jerang) categorically said ‘we welcome investigation against PDS scammers.’
