ITANAGAR, Dec 21:

Bye-elections to 12-Pakke-Kessang (ST) and 28-Likabali (ST) Assembly Constituencies concluded today with polling being largely peaceful with no untoward incidents reported.

However, under Gensi Circle at 11-Dibe Polling station, the polling process couldn’t take place due to malfunctioning of EVMs and at 14-Siberite polling station due to EVM damage by some miscreants. Both these polling stations fall under Likabali AC and re-polling will be held on Saturday, December 23 next.

The Chief Electoral Officer in a press statement informed that approximate poll percentage in Pakke-Kessang was 86% and Likabali clocked 51% which may go up as reports are awaited from interior places.

Meanwhile, no votes were cast in five polling stations of Kangku Circle which has been boycotting the bye-poll over its ‘No road No vote’ stand.

However, DIPRO reports state that six out of nine polling stations of Dolok Bango under Kangku circle of Lower Siang namely Kangku, Balisori, Kamsam, Ngopi, Barojan and Uli boycotted the election process standing firm on their decision. Durpai and Hime, the two other polling stations under Kangku Circle went to poll amid tight security. While Torajan/Siloni polling station started casting votes at 3pm.

At Siberite polling station, EVM was destroyed. At 11-Dibe polling station, which requires tough trek of five hours, polling couldn’t not take place as the two EVMs provided to the polling team didn’t work.

BJP’s Kardo Nyigyor, Modam Dini from INC, Gumke Riba of the PPA and Sengo Taipodia IND are in the fray to fill up the vacant Likabali Assembly seat. Biyuram Wahge of the BJP and Kameng Dolo from the Congress are contesting the Pakke-Kessang seat.
