ITANAGAR, Apr 7: The Capital police have arrested Saddam Hussain (24), Ashik Hussain (22) and Ramzan Alam (24) for the murder of 50-year-old Sub Inspector (SI) Sibu George, who was a native of Kerala and was attached to the DGP Cell in the Police Headquarters (PHQ), Itanagar.
George was found dead at his government quarters at SRPL Colony near here on April 1( crime executed  on the night of 31st March last).
Addressing the mediapersons at the PHQ here today, Capital SP Jimmy Chiram said that the murder was ‘pre-planned’ and for money. He said the deceased helped the accused with money in setting up Tyre repair shops. Ultimately, when the accused could not return the money, they planned the murder and accordingly executed it.
When inquired  about the amount, the SP informed that though there is no clarity about how much amount has to be returned to the victim but it was not above Rs 2 lakh.
SP, further informed that, the accused have confessed for the crime and so far there is no involvement of any fourth person in the murder. They had purchased two knives from Nirjuli and also bought fresh clothes to be altered after committing the crime.
Chiram said the police with the help of West Bengal Police arrested Ashik Hussain and Ramzan Alam from Barrackpore, West Bengal on Wednesday. While the prime suspect Saddam Hussain was arrested on the same day of murder from Lakhimpur, Assam.     
“On the day of murder, the fingerprint team was immediately called in the place of occurrence (PO) for forensic evidences. One blood stained knife used for cutting Tyre was found from the PO. Subsequently, Saddam Hussain's name came up through investigation and was later on the same night arrested, who was in fact to flee with his family,” he said.
Saddam is an acquaintance of the victim and was known to visit the victim’s house on the night of the incident. On the basis of his disclosure statement from Saddam, the police have recovered murder weapon and shirt worn by the accused person while committing the crime.
He said the case could not have been successful without the tireless efforts of a special investigation team led by capital police SDPO Kamdam Sikom and SI Rohit Rajbir Singh of SIT.
“The accused could have not been arrested without the support of technical and human intelligence. It was through the technical support from the team of police from SIT, all the accused were arrested,” he said, adding that all the accused are basically from Bihar but have remained in the state for almost many years.   
Saddam has been in Itanagar for his whole life and runs a tyre puncture shop nearby Punjabi Dhaba and Jullang. Ramzan Alam has been in Itanagar for the last 4 years, works in puncture and grocery shops and also owns a tyre puncture shop at Jully. Ashik Hussain has been in the state since 2017 and operates a battery charging and tyre puncture shop near IRBN colony, Jully.
A case has been registered vide Chimpu /PS/Case No-18/22 U/S-302/201 IPC.
